Character Notes for the Unwilling Jumpers* Campaign

If you want to respond to someone's notes about a character, just email me your comment and the item number you're replying to and I'll post it under the note in a different color.

Notes for Justin's Andalite Character

Hanwool:
(Hank's replies are in red.)
1.) Under morph, Only for 2 Hours or Trapped in Morph
-30% - I'm interpretting that as if he doesn't switch
back in time, he's stuck in whatever he morphed into
permanently. That seems to be priced correctly. Yet,
if that isn't the case and it isn't permanent, then it
is priced incorrectly since Limited Use (2 per day)
-30% is only for 2 minutes; 2 hours would not be worth
so much.

It's the first one (trapped if in one form for more
than 2 hours).

2.) The striker only has a reach of 1, to get a reach
of 2, the modifier is +200%. By the way, on page 402,
a size modifier of +1 ONLY grants a reach "C" weapon a
reach of 1, so you need to pay +200% to get a reach
"C", and 1 weapon to reach 2.

3.) Damage from a striker is based solely on
thrusting, therefore at striking strength 20, damage
would be 2d-1. Also, strikers gives you a +1 per die
of damage, so the striker does in total: 2d+1 damage.

It may be best to model this attack as an innate
attack.

4.) No mouth is worth -2? How was that priced?

It's arbitrary. I suppose it's based mainly on these
minor restrictions: can't bite, can't spit, can't use
ingested medications/potions, can't hide things in
mouth.

5.) The disadvantage: Will not wear "Artifical Skin" -
does that apply to rigid armor as well? "Skin" is a
little ambiguous.

It applies to armor, clothing, vacc suits... any kind
of covering.

6.) The skill: Beam Weapons/TL11-Pistol (Shredder) is
two TLs above the characters TL. This skill must
either be junked or the character's TL has to be
increased by 2.

Agree.

7.) By the way, what is a shredder? Is it from Gurps
3e?

Ehh, IIRC it's a sonic weapon from GURPS Ultra-Tech.

Notes for Justin's Vampire Character

Hank:
  1. No languages listed. I assume he has "English (native) [0]," but this should be listed.
  2. No TL or Cultural Familiarity listed. I think we should use the TL secondary characteristic since it gives greater/lesser access to skills.
  3. Rapid Healing is listed with a point cost of 0 (instead of the usual 5). Why? It's not included in Regeneration (Slow).
  4. Unkillable comes in levels; your level should be noted. (Though I assume it's level 2.)
  5. The limitation on Unkillable ("Hindrance—sunlight, -25%") isn't appropriate since sunlight isn't a substance that can remain in your body. I suggest you use an accessibility limitation instead: Not in direct sunlight, -10%. (This percentage is based on the accessibility examples; consider that "Only at night" is worth 20% and this is far less restrictive.)
  6. Bloodlust. This is a trait that is likely to create significant friction in the party. I suggest it be eliminated or, at the very least, have its self control number increased to 15.
  7. I don't really think the Divine Curse should be worth any points (or maybe just -1) since, as written, anyone in the group could invite the character inside any dwelling. Also, I'm not sure it's the right disad for what it does... seems like it should be a Dread or something (Like, "Dread (Dwellings; 1 yard; Only if uninvited, -60%) [-4]").
  8. Infectious Attack. You need to write up a Vampire racial template to go along with this.
  9. Monstrous Appearance, No Body Heat, No Reflection, No Shadow. I don't think these should be worth points. These should all be hidden by the "native illusion shell" we get. As a general rule, I don't think anyone should get points for things that cause a reaction penalty when perceived visually or tactilely. In fact, the ability to drop your disguise and suddenly become very scary is probably an advantage (but I won't go into that).
  10. Sense of Duty (Compatriots). I don't think this is worth anything. It's assumed. Especially given our group's new resolve to avoid party infighting.
  11. Social Stigma (Undead). Either invalid (as per #9) or possibly acceptable as a Secret with the limitation "Only where undead are feared, -xx%."
  12. Perks says "Perks: 3" in the heading, but I only count 2.
  13. Regrowth (Eyes) is not a perk. I recommend "Regrowth (Eyes only, -70%) [12]."
  14. Uncontrollable Appetite. Another game-breaking disad. Perhaps worthy of inclusion in the vampire racial template, but definitely not something I want to deal with in a PC.
  15. Unique. Read the disadvantage description on p. 160. "Unique is only a disadvantage in campaigns in which paradoxes or changes in history - erasing past events or whole timelines - are possible."
  16. Weakness (Sunlight). I don't have a problem with the cost or anything but you should realize this disad is crippling. It doesn't even have the Variable limitation. If you take this, you're likely to get left behind a lot. I doubt you'll enjoy this character in those situations.
  17. Hobby skill. This should probably be a Professional Skill ("Medieval Torturer").

*This is just a temporary name I made up to identify the game. Feel free to supply me with a better moniker.
